Sam Blyth has Visit with London & France Program

Dear Parents and Families,

On Friday evening, I had the pleasure of welcoming about 30 students and teachers from the London & France program into my home in Notting Hill, London. The weather was warm and sunny, and dinner flowed out into my small garden, which is flowering with jasmine. In short, a perfect English setting for a group of young Canadians visiting London.

I BBQ’d hamburgers, hot dogs, and provided lots of healthy salads, which were finished off with three less healthy cakes and ice cream from the famous bakery Ottolenghi, one of my neighbours here. We celebrated a birthday with a signature cake, and everybody sang.

After dinner I took the students on a tour of three pieces of art on my main floor and talked about my love of art and travel, and how I had learnt this at their age travelling in Europe, as they are doing now. The last piece by Lawren Harris of the Canadian Rockies, evoked, I think, some homesickness particularly as it followed so closely on Canada Day.

Your children were delightful and you should be proud! They are very well led by a very experienced and caring team of teachers and all seemed to be loving the experience.

Thank you for sending your children with us this summer in what is my 49th year of running these summer programs. It is wonderful to see the power of these experiences to transform and enrich the lives of young Canadians.

With best wishes,
Sam Blyth,
Chair,
Global Summers Academy.
