July 6 - Cooking Optional Excursion
Happy Monday! After a relaxing weekend, each class hit the ground running. The Bio classes each wrote a test, Grade 11’s were on the diversity of life and Grade 12’s were on macromolecules of the body. Classical Civilizations went to the Municipal Park where they had great discussions and worked on their culminating activities. The English classes analyzed a Greek myth of their choice using literary lenses, for example Echo and Narcissus, The Doctor and the Crow, and Midas. They did seminars in groups across Rethymno, taking place at the hotel, park and beach.
In the afternoon, we had our first Optional Excursion to a cooking class in the village of Vamos. Chef Koula Barydakis took the group through making phyllo pastry from scratch, to meatballs and tomato sauce, and finally dakos, which are a dish specific to Crete (and delicious!). Students got to assist at every step, and at the end we all enjoyed the meal together. They finished off with a walking tour of Vamos before making it back to the hotel to join their friends for sunset.
