July 17 - Agios Stefanos Cave-Chapel Hike
This morning had a very early start for students who chose to join AC Steph (and PM Diane and Bio teacher Chris) on the Agios Stefanos Cave-Chapel hike.
With a 5:30 am start time, the small group of students were up and moving before the sunrise. The group started towards the trailhead, which was uphill, but with a good pace and lots of breaks to appreciate the rising sun and the landscape, we made it with great time to start the hike. Beginning the hike meant heading down (thankfully) towards the water with a more rugged landscape. Switchbacks, built in stairs, and amazing views made for an awesome trek down to the chapel.
When the group arrived, they were welcomed with a breathtaking view of the chapel built into the cave in the mountain. Unfortunately, the strong winds and big waves meant no swim, but we still enjoyed the serenity and listening to the waves, enjoying a very unique experience. After a rest and a snack, the group made their way back up. While challenging, students continued on and supported each other, as they made their way back up to the top of the mountain. Students (and staff) were extra happy that the hard work was done, and started back down towards the hotel for a full breakfast and a much-needed shower before heading to their classes.
For the rest of the day, students were in their classes and working on assignments. In the afternoon, many of them enjoyed the pool, even going down the water slide! After dinner, some students went and enjoyed the sunset at the beach and embraced the slow and relaxing vibe of the week, while others got ready and went into the town of Ermoupoli for more shopping and excitement.
