July 10 - Akrotiri and Night in Oia

Our first full day in Perivolos, Santorini began very early with an optional sunrise yoga session held by our Activity Coordinator, Steph. Being on the serene black sand beach was the perfect way to start the day. For students who did not wake up for the sunrise, most were able to sleep in after a long travel day yesterday and enjoy a poolside breakfast.

Classical Civilization met early and headed to Akrotiri, which is similar to Pompeii. One student shared the city’s history, including that unlike Pompeii, most people evacuated because they received warning signs that there would be a massive Theran eruption. Some also believe that Akrotiri may be the lost city of Atlantis! In the English classes, students prepared for debates that will happen in Syros, and our Bio students learned about punnett squares, using Greek plants.

When classes were finished, students had time to get ready before an evening in Oia! We enjoyed a delicious and classic Greek meal of salad, cheese pies, and gyros before heading to a few viewpoints for photos before our final destination in the city to watch the most beautiful sunset. Students set themselves up and watched the sun set over the horizon. We headed back to Perivolos for students to enjoy the rest of their Friday night.
