Day 5: Hitting the Town!!

Tuesday, July 28th

Today’s blog is brought to you by Kiara in Ms. Ramos’ English class. Enjoy!

Today our students had their first full day in the beautiful Syros. They fuelled up before their school day at the Dolphin Bay buffet, which consists of a wide assortment of foods including, but not limited to, croissants drizzled in Nutella, bacon, omelettes, fruit and various baked goods. Classes at the Dolphin Bay resort are unmatched, taking place on the beach, by the pool or on the patio with views of the strikingly blue water. The Ancient Civilizations class delved into individual work, and the two English classes finished revisiting all of King Lear!!

After classes, the students dressed up to go to Hermoupolis, the nearest town, just a 25-minute bus ride away from where they were staying. They snapped many great pictures on the walking tour before heading to the local dinner place for the Greek twist on lasagna called “Pastitsio,” which has “Béchamel,” a thick custard-like white sauce, and tube-shaped pasta at the base instead of the flat lasagna noodles.

Post supper, the students got time to walk around town, shop, purchase gelato and experience Hermoupolis coming to life with their very own eyes!! In the square, they could observe children gathering together to pass around a soccer ball, watch LED helicopter spinners soar into the sky and then flutter down glowing blue, green and purple or simply just come together to talk. After this long night of exploring, most students crashed onto their beds, anticipating the days yet to come!!

We’re excited for our Sailing excursion tomorrow!
