Day 13: Castles, Galleries, Gardens and Museums

Thursday, August 8th

Castles, Galleries, Gardens and Museums

It was another full day of experiential learning in Rome.

Ms. McKowen held her English class in the Borghese Gardens this morning. Students enjoyed working in the shade. They even went on mini rowboat ride during their break. After lunch, they headed to the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art. Students were able to admire the artwork and find quiet spaces to work on their next assignment.

Mr. Williams’ Photography class also headed to the Borghese Gardens this morning. Students enjoyed taking scenic pictures and using their tripods.

Ms. Radulovic’s Classical Civilization class headed to Castel Sant’Angelo, a 2nd century round castle, commissioned by Emperor Hadrian as a mausoleum for himself and his family. It was later used as a fortress and a castle and is now a museum. It was once the tallest building in Rome.

Ms. Radulovic’s and Mr. Williams’ classes then headed to the Leonardo da Vinci Museum, for an interactive experience on the many of his incredible creations. They even saw a replica of the Mona Lisa.

Students are excited for the sunrise walk tomorrow morning. Stay tuned!
