Day 12: Classes, GSA Style!
Wednesday, August 7th
Full Day of Classes – Global Summers’ Style
Today marked the first day without excursions so we focused on a full day of classes, GSA style of course!
Mr. Williams’ Photography class settled into “The Garden” in our hotel’s courtyard for a much-needed day of editing their collections of photographs.
Ms. McKowen’s class visited the National Central Library of Rome where they had a tour of the library, followed by a work period.
Ms. Radulovic’s Classical Civilizations class started their class at the Trevi Fountain where a student did their presentation on the Trevi Fountain! Next stop was the Chiesa di Sant’Ignazio di Loyola, a beautiful church with impressive, frescoed ceilings. This was followed by a presentation at the Largo di Torre Argentina, the alleged site of the assassination of Julius Ceasar. Next up was the presentation about the Imperial Forum and it took place…. at the Imperial Forum. After 10,000 steps, the class decided to reward themselves with the best tiramisu in Rome! Their last visit was deep underground where they toured the aqueducts that supply water to the Trevi Fountain!
After independent study time, we gathered for dinner, which was followed by an immersive show at the Roman Forum. Students learned how the grand avenue was constructed in the 1930s, how the Roman Forum was excavated and they learned about the life of Julius Ceasar through an audio/visual presentation that featured projections on to the ruins.
