Walking Through Time – Exploring Stari Grad & the City Walls of Dubrovnik

Today, our journey took us deep into the heart of Dubrovnik’s Old Town—Stari Grad—where every stone seemed to whisper stories from centuries past.

We wandered through narrow cobblestone streets, past ancient churches, charming squares, and bustling little shops. Students were fascinated by the Rector’s Palace, the Franciscan Monastery, and the Onofrio Fountain, where many paused to refill their bottles and soak in the history. The guide brought the city’s rich past to life, from tales of the Republic of Ragusa to the resilience of Dubrovnik through wars and earthquakes.

Then came the highlight: a walk along the top of the city walls. Stretching nearly 2 kilometers, the walls offered breathtaking views of the terracotta rooftops, the shimmering Adriatic Sea, and the islands beyond. Students were in awe of the sheer scale and preservation of the fortifications, especially the Minceta Tower and Fort Bokar. Cameras were snapping non-stop!

But the surprise favorite? A stop at what might just be the coolest public basketball court in the world—perched dramatically between the ancient walls and the sea. With its bold red surface and epic backdrop, it looked like something out of a movie. Students couldn’t stop talking about it—some even said it was the highlight of the day!

From history buffs to Instagrammers, everyone found something to love today. Dubrovnik continues to amaze.
