Our classroom extends beyond four walls as Paris brings literature to life. Reading and discussing great works in meaningful locations makes every lesson more memorable.

The famous Shakespeare and Company Café provided the perfect literary setting, while seeing real axolotls at the Menagerie in the Jardin des Plantes made Julio Cortázar’s Axolotl unforgettable. Guy de Maupassant’s The Necklace inspired thoughtful conversations near the Wall of Love, where many students agreed that love is life’s greatest treasure. The beauty of Notre-Dame and the breathtaking views from Sacré-Cœur reminded us of Paris’s rich history and culture. At Père Lachaise Cemetery, we reflected on the lives and legacies of some of France’s greatest writers and artists. The Jardin du Luxembourg also became our classroom as students prepared video presentations on immortal historical figures.

We saw more than can be mentioned, and every corner of Paris reminded us that literature, history, and culture are best experienced together.
