OPTIONAL EXCURSION: Windswept Wonders: A Student Day Trip to Mykonos
Our group of adventurous student travelers set sail from Syros on a windy morning, bound for the iconic island of Mykonos.
Upon arrival, Mykonos greeted us with its signature charm—and its famous wind! The breeze was playful and persistent, tugging at hats, tousling hair, and adding a touch of drama to every photo op. Students gathered along the coast, eager to capture the legendary windmills, only to be splashed by the sea as waves crashed against the rocks. Laughter echoed as they dodged the spray, turning the moment into a highlight of the day.
Our guide, Amerylis, was a gem—warm, insightful, and full of stories that brought the island’s history and culture to life. She led us through winding alleys lined with whitewashed houses and vibrant bougainvillea, pointing out hidden chapels and sharing tales of pirates, artists, and island traditions. And she treated us to some cookies from a bakery that has been around for 10 generations.
Lunch was a feast at a cozy taverna tucked away from the bustling waterfront. The food was as memorable as the company—simple, authentic, and absolutely delicious.
As the day wound down, we wandered through boutiques and art galleries, soaking in the island’s bohemian spirit. The wind never let up, but it only added to the magic—reminding us that Mykonos is a place where nature, history, and joy swirl together in every moment.
