Movie Day!
Our Core French students recently enjoyed an exciting excursion to the movie theatre in Cannes as the culminating activity for our latest unit on the world of film. Over the past few days, students explored different movie genres, practised useful French expressions for going to the cinema, and even visited Le Chemin des Étoiles to learn more about Cannes’ rich cinematic history. To prepare for the trip, each student selected a film currently showing at the local theatre and completed some initial research before attending.
As a class, we visited the theatre where students purchased their own movie tickets and popcorn before settling in to enjoy the show. Students chose to watch either the new Moana or Minions film, giving them an authentic opportunity to experience a movie in French while putting their language skills into practice in a real-world setting.
The excursion was not only a fun and relaxing experience—complete with a welcome break in the air conditioning—but also an important learning opportunity. Students will now use their cinema experience to complete the final assessment for the unit: a film critique. Watching a French-language film in an authentic environment has given them valuable insights and confidence as they develop their listening, comprehension, and writing skills.
