Florence & Pompeii
July 4th & 5th
Our final days in Rome included optional excursions to Florence and Pompeii.
Students woke up bright and early to catch a 9:00 am train that would take us from Rome to Florence. Students went on a three-hour walking tour where they learned all about the history of the enchanting streets of Florence and visited Piazzale Michelangelo, Ponte Vecchio (a historic bridge that crosses over the Amo River in Florence), and the Galleria dell’Accademia that houses a sculpture of Michelangleo. The tour was followed by a couple hours of free time where students got to explore all the shops and restaurants Florence has to offer. Students ate some very yummy sandwiches and did a lot of price bargaining at the leather market!
The following day, students visited the ancient city of Pompeii situated in the Campania region of Italy (near Naples). Students embarked on a two-hour walking tour that included visits to ancient villas, bathouses, and ampithetres where approximately 20,000 people used to reside before they were all buried alive by a volcano eruption. We ended our Pompeii adventures with lunch near the ancient site and then boarded our bus to head back to the hotel for dinner.
Can’t “espresso” how much we’ve been loving Italy!
