Today’s blog is brought to you by Addi in Ms. Soleski’s English class. Enjoy!

Sailing Around Syros

Today was the first optional excursion of the program, sailing in Syros!

Our sailing excursion began in the small village of Kini, where everyone gathered before making their way onto the boat. Once we were all settled in, we started sailing away from the port and got our first views of the coastline and surrounding mountains. The wind was stronger once we left, which made the beginning of the trip a little more exciting as the boat moved through the waves!

We enjoyed sitting around the boat, talking with friends, taking photos and watching the scenery as we travelled toward our first swimming spot. When we arrived at a small, sheltered bay, the water was much calmer, and everyone was ready to get in the water. We quickly grabbed our goggles and snorkels and jumped into the water. Some of us spent the time swimming and snorkelling, while others jumped off the boat and did plenty of cannonballs. Between swimming, jumping and exploring the water, there was lots of energy and laughter around the boat.

After working up an appetite, everyone returned to the boat for lunch. We enjoyed a delicious BBQ meal with souvlaki, fresh tomatoes and cucumbers, bread, fries, and homemade tzatziki. We ate together on the boat while enjoying the views around us and ended the meal with fresh fruit. We then continued sailing to our next stop, where we had the opportunity to swim over to a nearby island. The island was a great place to explore, with rocks, shells, and clear water surrounding the shore. It was then time to head toward the last swimming spot, with more waves than the last.

We spent the afternoon jumping from the boat, swimming together, and relaxing on deck. Some chose to stay in the water while others found a comfortable spot in the sun and enjoyed the beautiful views. We continued to take pictures and enjoy the last part of our time out on the water before we eventually made our way back to Kini.

Once we returned to the hotel, we had some time to shower and relax before dinner after a busy day in the sun. Everyone then came together for a buffet dinner and enjoyed watching the sun set. We took lots of photos, talked with friends, and enjoyed the beautiful views as the sky changed colours. It was a relaxing way to end a busy day filled with sailing, swimming, and exploring.

Everyone had the chance to slow down after such an active day. Overall, the sailing excursion was a great mix of adventure and relaxation, giving us the chance to explore the water, try new activities, and enjoy the day together.
