Day 4: A Smooth Journey to Beautiful Bilbao

Our fourth day began with a hearty breakfast in the Hotel Azul cafeteria, fueling us up for a travel day filled with excitement and anticipation. With luggage packed and spirits high, students helped bring their bags down to the lobby. As it started to get a bit crowded, we quickly shifted outdoors, where the group waited safely and comfortably on the quiet street, chatting about what adventures might await in Bilbao.

Right on schedule, our private coach pulled up and we efficiently loaded our gear, climbed aboard, and began our six-hour journey north through the changing Spanish landscape. The further we drove, the cooler and fresher the air became—a welcome contrast to Barcelona’s summer heat.

Roughly two-thirds into the trip, we stopped at a well-equipped rest station for a stretch break, food, and restroom stop. The atmosphere was upbeat, with students sharing music, stories, and excitement for what was ahead.

By late afternoon, we rolled into Bilbao and were greeted by the modern silhouette of our new accommodations at the University residence. Everyone pitched in to unload the bus quickly and efficiently. In true teamwork fashion, we organized a clever system: students used the elevators to send their luggage up while others sprinted ahead to collect the bags—a fast and fun way to get everyone settled in record time.

Room keys were distributed smoothly, and students had time to unpack and refresh before heading down for our first group dinner in Bilbao—and what a meal it was! A generous buffet awaited, offering fresh salads, a choice of pasta or cauliflower in béchamel sauce, fish and chips or ribs and chips, and a sweet finish of cake, yogurt, or fruit, plus crusty rolls. The students were thrilled, and the food was met with glowing reviews—abundant, delicious, and satisfying.

The evening wrapped up with some well-deserved free time, giving everyone a chance to explore the residence area or relax with friends. Not a single complaint—just enthusiasm, cooperation, and curiosity for what’s to come.

Another well-organized and energizing day on our Grand Tour—and now, Bilbao awaits.
