Day 4 - A Day of History, Culture, and Canada Day Celebrations!
Today began with another exciting morning of classes as students continued their learning in the heart of Rome. Ms. Kovacevic and Mr. Reusch took advantage of the beautiful weather by holding their lessons in a nearby park, providing a peaceful outdoor classroom surrounded by nature. Meanwhile, Ms. McGrath’s class enjoyed learning from the hotel’s gorgeous patio, making the most of the stunning Roman setting.
In the afternoon, we made our way to one of the most significant cultural and religious sites in the world for a guided tour of the Vatican Museums. Students were fascinated by the incredible artwork, sculptures, and history found throughout the museums before continuing into the breathtaking St. Peter’s Basilica. From Michelangelo’s masterpieces to the immense beauty of the basilica itself, the visit left everyone amazed by the artistry and history surrounding us.
After a day filled with exploration, we enjoyed another delicious Italian meal. This time featured authentic pizza accompanied by traditional Italian music, creating the perfect atmosphere to end our evening.
Although we were thousands of kilometres from home, we couldn’t let Canada Day pass without celebrating! Our Activity Coordinator, McKay, organized a fun evening filled with Canada Day trivia before hosting a lighthearted “Honourary Canadian Initiation” for our international students. Participants put their Canadian knowledge to the test by attempting to pronounce famously tricky place names like Nanaimo, Etobicoke, and Saskatchewan. They also drew their own Canadian flags and proudly recited the “Canadian Oath.” After successfully completing each challenge, they were officially welcomed as Honourary Canadians and joined the rest of the group in celebrating Canada Day together.
It was a wonderful day that blended world-famous history, meaningful cultural experiences, and a little piece of home. These shared moments continue to bring our group closer together, and we are excited to see what the rest of our adventure has in store!
