Day 20: Arrival in Rome – Rolling Into the Eternal City

Our 20th day on the Grand Tour of Europe began with the comfort and familiarity of a fresh, healthy breakfast at our Florence hotel. With the Tuscan sun shining, some students took the opportunity to enjoy their morning meal on the hotel’s terrace, soaking in the last warm rays and atmosphere of this beautiful city.

After breakfast, we began our well-coordinated departure—rolling over 100 pieces of luggage from the hotel lobby to our waiting coach. The hotel staff saw us off with warm smiles, clearly charmed by our group. Our bus driver once again showcased his skill and resourcefulness, managing to fit every last suitcase with precision and care.

Soon, we were on the road. Traffic leaving Florence was slow, but our expert planning ensured that the schedule remained flexible and smooth. Once on the highway, the journey flowed with ease. Around the halfway mark, we made a timely rest stop—a chance to stretch our legs, grab snacks, and use the facilities. Spirits were high and energy refreshed as we continued southward.

As we approached Rome, excitement built. The skyline began to change, and suddenly there it was—the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica rising majestically above the rooftops. It was a breathtaking welcome to the Eternal City. We arrived at our hotel, got checked in efficiently, and took some time to settle into our new home base.

Later in the afternoon, we hopped back on the bus and headed into central Rome for an exciting exploration challenge. Students were divided into teams for a city-wide scavenger hunt, racing to uncover Rome’s iconic landmarks for a sweet reward: free gelato for the winning team. It was an engaging way to combine fun with learning, and students loved the chance to navigate the city in small groups.

We ended our evening at a delightful Roman restaurant, where we were treated to a classic Italian meal: crispy bruschetta, handmade pizzas, and a refreshing lemon smoothie for dessert. The night became even more special as we celebrated David’s birthday—complete with a heartfelt rendition of Happy Birthday and a personalized birthday cake to mark the occasion.

With full bellies and happy hearts, we returned to the hotel reflecting on how far we’ve come—and how much we still have to look forward to in these final days of discovery and celebration in Rome. From Florence to the heart of Italy, Day 20 was another unforgettable chapter in our Grand Tour of Europe.
