Day 18: First Class in Crete
Monday, August 10th, 2026
Today’s blog is brought to you by Addisen from Ms. Soleski’s English class!
Kalimera Everyone!
Today was our first full day of classes in Crete! The morning started as usual with breakfast before heading to class. However, the teachers decided to have our class in cafes around our hotel. My class went to the cutest little coffee spot called Theorist. I was there on Sunday, and I loved their coffee and food. The cafe is very aesthetic; it has a large bookshelf along the window, wooden benches, small tables, and is so cozy.
Ms. Soleski explained our new critical theory unit and project. We have to analyze a short story of our choice and make a presentation about it. We got to pick our partners and topics. I paired up with my friend, and we chose the story “How to Pronounce Knife”. While we were there, we decided to get food and coffee. Many got different versions of avocado toast, and they all loved it! Others enjoyed their lattes and cappuccinos, including me. I got a vanilla freddo cappuccino! Ever since I landed in Greece, I have been obsessed with freddo cappuccinos. They are so delicious, and the one I had today had to be one of my favourites so far!! Greece makes some of the best iced coffees ever, way better than Canada.
Enough about our school life. Today was day 18 of our program, and people were running out of clean clothes. So, today was laundry day! Some of us went to the self-service one, and others went to the laundry place where the workers cleaned it for you. My friends and I chose self-service, which took two hours to get done. While the group waited for their laundry, some went souvenir shopping or got lunch. My friends and I did both. We went to a little bakery and ate sandwiches and ice cream, then bought souvenirs. Crete has the cutest little bracelets and necklaces. I love them and chose one for myself! The people who chose not to do laundry went to get ice cream and even made it themselves. Also, a group of girls went to the fish spa to get their feet eaten by little fish!!
As the class day came to an end, some continued working on the culminating and schoolwork, while others in our group went shopping. My friends and I went shopping and got gelato. You can never have too much of either! We all gathered back in the lobby after our after-school activities for announcements and dinner. Although Greek food is delicious, eating it for 18 days straight can get very boring. There’s this amazing sushi place next to our hotel, with the freshest fish that I definitely recommend. Since it was a Monday, everyone made it back to the hotel pretty early and went to get ready for bed. See you guys tomorrow for our excursion to the festival in Chania!

As Addisen mentioned, we will head to the most beautiful city on Crete tomorrow, Chania.
Can’t wait to share those images with you!
