Day 17: Epic Sunday
Sunday, August 9th, 2026
Today’s blog is brought to you by Lila from Ms. Soleski’s English class!
Today marks our third day on the lovely island of Crete. We have been enjoying the town of Rethymno and trying our best to stay cool and hydrated in this heat. We started off our day with a satisfying buffet breakfast and then took off to start our last day of the weekend. It was a smooth day of relaxation and reset.
Some of the group went to the beach for a beautiful day of sun soaking and saltwater. It was the perfect weather to take in the sizzling sun while lying down to get that perfect beachy tan. Some brave students even parasailed along the gorgeous coastline. Others took the day to get some laundry done after our many days of outfit repeating. There is no better feeling than some clean clothes on a Sunday reset.
After hours of beaching and laundry, we sat down for a delightful dinner at the hotel buffet. On tonight’s menu, there were many excellent options such as Greek salad, potatoes (best served with tzatziki, of course), and chicken. For dessert, we had the option of cookies or a Greek staple, walnut baklava.
After finishing up our dinner, we headed to the Asteria Open Air Cinema, where we enjoyed a lengthy classic Greek story turned film, The Odyssey. This was the perfect movie to watch given our location because we got to live the Greek movie theatre experience while tuning into an ancient Greek tale of gods, monsters, and myths. We learned that in Greece there is an intermission in the movie, which was an interesting experience. It allowed us to stock up on more popcorn, candy, and drinks. It also gave our Classical Civilizations class a chance to huddle with Mr. P and talk about their first impressions of the movie. It was a late night for us all, so after the movie we headed to bed to get our best rest for a full day of school tomorrow.

It’s back to classes tomorrow. After a beautiful weekend of beach, tanning, parasailing, laundry, shopping, napping and gelato, it’s time to get back to our academics. We have a full day of classes tomorrow.
Stay tuned for more!
