Day 10: Colosseum & Night City Tours
Monday, August 5th
Morning Classes, Colosseum Tour and Evening City Walk
This morning, we held our first class in Rome. The grounds of our hotel are beautiful and offer many spaces for our classes to spread out. Our history class walked over to a park two blocks away and held their class while looking at ancient Roman aqueducts.
Students learned about the 2,000 water fountains that are scattered all over Rome that date back to the ancient Roman times. Many are still fed by those same aqueducts. They enjoyed learning how to properly drink out of the fountains, called a Nasone, which translates to big nose.
After lunch we headed to the Colosseum where we met our local guide, Roberto. He took us on a walking tour of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum across the street. We then headed back to our hotel area for dinner at a local restaurant. After dinner, we headed back into town for a walking tour of downtown Rome. We walked down the Spanish Steps, admired the beauty of the Trevi Fountain, walked past many shops on our way to the Pantheon and Piazza Navona.
We capped our evening with some delicious gelato before jumping on the bus to head back to the hotel. We got back to the hotel just before midnight. It was a 20,000-step kind of day and we enjoyed every minute of it.
