A Grand Beginning: Day One in Barcelona

Our European adventure launched with great energy and anticipation at Pearson International Airport, as 52 enthusiastic students boarded their flight for an unforgettable journey. After an 8-hour overnight flight, we touched down under the warm, sunny skies of Barcelona—refreshed by the thrill of being in Europe.

Customs moved surprisingly quickly with only a 30-minute wait, and soon we were aboard our spacious 62-seat coach, more than comfortable for our group of 58. A smooth 20-minute drive brought us into the heart of the city, where we arrived at the welcoming Hotel Azul. The students, buzzing with excitement but understandably tired, had a bit of free time to get their bearings and begin exploring the vibrant neighborhood. By 3:00 PM, everyone had checked into their rooms and had a chance to rest and refresh.

Later that afternoon, we held our first orientation meetings—an important time to go over the day’s events, review safety protocols, and preview the exciting itinerary ahead. Just 50 meters away, our first group dinner awaited us. The air-conditioned restaurant provided not only delicious food but also a cool, relaxing space to unwind and share first impressions of the city.

After dinner, we took a short, well-supervised walk to secure each student’s 48-hour public transit pass, giving them access to both the metro and bus systems—a key tool for exploring the city safely and efficiently over the next two days.

The evening wrapped up with some relaxed free time before a check-in back at the hotel by 11:30 PM. Some students returned right away, while others took the chance for one last stroll in the city. Everyone ended the day tired, happy, and full of anticipation for the days to come.

What a spectacular and well-organized first day—it truly set the tone for the adventure ahead!
