Without a doubt, my Global Summers Academy experience is one I will remember for life. I made at least one unforgettable memory every day. Some of my favourite memories were made on our local beach.
Just about every day, after we had finished our schoolwork, or gotten back from our excursion, my friends and I would head down to the beach. We talked, swam, and played on the beach for hours. Arguably the best part is that every night, there would be a beautiful sunset, casting bright colours over the ocean and surrounding mountains. With the vibrant colours, sound of waves crashing and birds chirping, and the smell of the ocean, it was difficult to not feel like that part of the day was a highlight. Ending a “school day” in that way is such a unique experience and is something I cherish. After we had left the beach for dinner, we got to head out again. This was also one of my favourite parts, and something extremely memorable to me. Whether we decided to get ice cream, check out a local restaurant, or just walk around the town, we always had fun and made memories.
Another travel highlight for me was the surfing excursion. The surfing beach was a bus ride away from our normal one and in a gorgeous beach town. Before surfing we got to explore the town and go into the shops. They had the cutest cafes and souvenir shops. When it was our time to surf, the guides took us to get our boards and bring them to the water. We got a quick lesson on what to do, and then we got to try it out. The guides were all so helpful and supportive, and everyone was cheering each other on. It was so much fun learning a new skill and doing it with all your friends. After our time to surf had ended, we had extra time, so we decided to play in the waves. We were in the water for hours, endlessly entertained by the waves that were the perfect size. After all that swimming and surfing we had gotten hungry, but part of the excursion was lunch. At the restaurant, they had such good food, and it was so fulfilling after such a satisfying day. Overall, I had so much fun on that day, and made so many memories with my friends that I will never forget.
