TRADITIONAL COSTA RICAN COOKING LESSON
Try your hand at this delicious cuisine! We will spend the afternoon making casado—the most traditional Costa Rican dish, which incorporates meat or chicken, rice, beans, vegetables and tasty fried plantains. We will start from the very beginning, learning the proper way to soak the beans before cooking, and see the dish to its completion! Once finished, we will enjoy the fruits of our labour. This is certainly a skill to take home!

Upon arrival, students gather around a large traditional wooden table overlooking the sea for a hands-on cooking experience guided by local hosts. During this interactive activity, students will learn about traditional Cretan cuisine, the importance of fresh local ingredients, and the role food plays in Greek family and social life. Working together with the hosts, they will discover how classic recipes and cooking techniques have been passed down through generations. Students will help prepare and enjoy a variety of traditional dishes including dakos salad with fresh tomatoes and Cretan cheese, tzatziki, stuffed vegetables and vine leaves (gemista and dolmades), greek salad and kolokithokeftedes. VOLCANO AND HOT SPRINGS TOUR, SANTORINI
When in Santorini, one must learn and experience how this island came to be. Santorini is a volcanic island group at the central south end of the Cyclades in the Aegean Sea. It is arguably the most famous of the Greek islands and it is renowned for its spectacular sea-filled volcanic caldera. Santorini’s half-moon shaped bay is surrounded by steep, colourful cliffs and spectacular sea views. Once we arrive at the volcanic bay by boat, we will follow the path to the top of the volcano to Palea Kameni where active craters still gently puff steam. Here we will experience the famous hot springs and mud baths, which were formed as result of volcanic eruptions. In the small bay of Agios Nikolaos the water temperature ranges from 30 to 35 degrees Celsius, as it mixes continuously with the normal sea currents.
