Community Service is an important aspect of giving back to the community. We try to instill a sense of global responsibility in all of our students as they explore the world. This optional excursion will allow students to engage in locally based community initiatives. Their time with local children, animals, or the natural environment of the area will earn them 4-5 community involvement hours which can go towards the student’s high school diploma.

SEA KAYAKING, GREECE
Enjoy a coast-to-coast trip along the seaside villages east of Kalamata. From the beachfront of the Messinian capital to the seaside villages of the region of West Mani, we discover numerous small beaches, spectacular rock formations and turquoise waters. At a distance we get a sight of the foothills of mount Taygetos and on our side constantly lies mount Kalathio, a mountain that literally touches the sea. We will journey along the coastline at a relaxed pace, landing on beaches and just having a good time exploring. AUTHENTIC COOKING CLASS AND HALF DAY IN MAROULAS VILLAGE
This excursion will have you experiencing an authentic day in Crete! Immerse yourself in local culture while discovering the traditions and flavors of the Mediterranean diet. Upon arrival, students gather around a large traditional wooden table overlooking the sea for a hands-on cooking experience guided by local hosts. During this interactive activity, students will learn about traditional Cretan cuisine, the importance of fresh local ingredients, and the role food plays in Greek family and social life. Working together with the hosts, they will discover how classic recipes and cooking techniques have been passed down through generations. Students will help prepare and enjoy a variety of traditional dishes including dakos salad with fresh tomatoes and Cretan cheese, tzatziki, stuffed vegetables and vine leaves (gemista and dolmades), greek salad and kolokithokeftedes. After the cooking experience and lunch, the group will enjoy a short walk through the picturesque village of Maroulas, exploring its narrow streets and historic churches while learning about the village’s history and Venetian influence. Students learn how to prepare traditional Cretan dishes while discovering the importance of olive oil, local mountain herbs, and fresh seasonal ingredients. Τhe menu will include: rooster in tomato sauce with traditional skioufichta pasta, or meatballs in red sauce as the main course, accompanied by dakos salad, fresh salad, kalitsounia with myzithra cheese and aromatic herbs, dessert, bread, water, and a local soft drink. STAND UP PADDLING, CRETE
Bring your energy and join us for a two-hour upper body Stand-Up Paddling workout. Your instructors will demonstrate techniques on how to use your SUP and share with you their knowledge about safety precautions and procedures while out on the water.
