Vimy-a peace of Canada
Our Visit to Vimy Ridge and the Mines of Arras
Our trip to Vimy Ridge and the Mines of Arras was something we’ll never forget.
At Vimy, the giant white memorial was breathtaking—but it was the preserved trenches that really hit us. Walking through those narrow paths, we could imagine what it was like for soldiers living and fighting there.
We also saw the names of thousands of Canadian soldiers carved into the memorial, many with no known grave. It felt personal.
Later, we went underground into the tunnels beneath Arras, where soldiers prepared for battle. It was dark, cold, and powerful. Carvings on the walls reminded us these were real people, not just names in a textbook.
This excursion helped us understand the war in a way we never could in a classroom.
