Sun, Sand, and Gelato: A Student Day at Maccarese Beach

After days of exploring ancient ruins and Renaissance art, our student group traded cobblestones for sand with a refreshing day trip to Maccarese Beach, one of Rome’s favorite seaside escapes. Just a short drive from the city, Maccarese welcomed us with golden sand, gentle waves, and rows of colorful umbrellas. We spent the day at a classic Italian beach club, complete with sun loungers, beachside cafés, and that laid-back Mediterranean vibe. Students swam in the warm Tyrrhenian Sea, played beach volleyball, and sampled local snacks — think fresh panini, cold granita, and of course, creamy gelato. Some even tried their Italian at the snack bar, ordering “un caffè freddo, per favore!” The beach club offered showers, changing rooms, and shaded areas — perfect for relaxing between dips in the sea. Music played softly in the background, and the whole day felt like a mini vacation within our Roman adventure.
