July 19: All Roads Lead to Rome

Friday:
We arrived in the afternoon, after a smooth ride from Florence. Dropping our bags at the hotel, we got the ground running, and got right into the heart of the city.  Each student was given a transit pass and as a team, we navigated the bus system, then the Rome subway for the first time.

When we stepped off our city bus downtown, our first stop, of course, was for gelato.  And some of the best pizza yet!  After all, when traveling, you really experience some places through the food. Fueled by the delicious snacks, we walked through Piazza Navona and visited the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps.  Around every corner, students were met with a different beautiful building or historic landmark.  They were able to see how Rome’s water system makes it easy to find fresh, cold drinking water for tipping up their bottles — and we sure needed it in the heat!

Back to our hotel on the subway, and there was time to jump in the pool before dinner. A refreshing swim or a little nap was just what everyone seemed to need.  We ate dinner together and settled into our Rome home.

Saturday:
This morning, some students got to catch some extra rest, while others were up bright and early — to head off for a full day at the beach!  This we our optional excursion to Macarena’s Beach, and the students who joined in got to spend the day enjoying the sun, sand, and waves.

After they got back to the hotel, we all had dinner together with everyone feeling more rested after today.

Looking forward to a full day tomorrow!
