Hiking, Legends & Spikes – A Day of Adventure in Galissas

Today was packed with energy, exploration, and a little friendly competition as our students embraced the spirit of Syros with a hike, a hidden church, and a beach volleyball showdown!

Hike to the Cave Church of St. Stefano
We started the day with a challenging but rewarding hike from Galissas to the cave church of St. Stefano. The trail was steep and rocky, winding through sunlit hills and offering stunning views of the coastline. Students pushed through the climb with determination, and the reward was worth every step.

Tucked into the cliffside, the church of St. Stefano is a peaceful, sacred space built into a natural cave. Our guide shared local folk tales about its origin—stories of shipwrecks, divine lights, and grateful survivors who built the church in thanks. The legends added a mystical layer to the experience, making the visit even more memorable.

Beach Volleyball Tournament
Back in Galissas, the afternoon brought out everyone’s competitive side with a beach volleyball tournament! Teams formed quickly, and the energy was electric. Sand flew, cheers echoed, and the matches were full of laughter, teamwork, and some surprisingly impressive spikes. Whether playing or cheering from the sidelines, everyone got into the spirit.

From steep climbs to sandy courts, today was a celebration of adventure, culture, and connection.
