Farewell!
What an incredible Journey!
It is hard to believe that our time together has come to an end. It feels like just yesterday we were arriving in Lisbon, dropping off our bags, grabbing a quick bite to eat, and heading out to explore a brand new city together. Since that first day, our students have travelled across Portugal and Spain, embraced new cultures, challenged themselves academically, and created memories that will last a lifetime.
Every stop brought something new. We explored the colourful streets of Lisbon, discovered Porto by tuk-tuk, experienced the excitement of the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, enjoyed the beaches of Mallorca, wandered through Madrid, and admired the breathtaking beauty of the Sagrada Família in Barcelona. Along the way, students tried new foods, learned about local history and traditions, and made the most of every opportunity.
Some of the biggest highlights came from the experiences we shared together. Long bus rides were filled with naps, laughter, and games like Heads Up! and Imposter. Quiet evenings often turned into competitive rounds of Uno and other card games. Free time led to escape rooms, shopping trips, beach games, and plenty of gelato. Even randomly assigned dinner tables became something everyone looked forward to, giving students the chance to connect with people outside their usual groups and share stories from the day.
The Amazing Race was another memorable part of the program. The group’s teamwork, energy, and determination made the activity exciting for everyone involved.
While the travel experiences were unforgettable, this program was also a major academic achievement. The students balanced classes, assignments, presentations, independent study, and travel throughout the entire program. Their final culminating presentations were a true highlight. Many students completely blew us away with the depth of their research, confidence, and insight as they explored topics connected to the culture, history, art, tourism, and traditions of Portugal and Spain.
Their presentations showed how much they had learned from both the classroom and the places they visited. It was rewarding to see students connect their academic work to experiences such as the Running of the Bulls, Spanish artwork, architecture, and the impact of tourism. Their preparation and growth were clear, and they should be incredibly proud of what they produced.
The final exams marked the end of weeks of hard work and dedication. Watching students leave the exam space smiling, relieved, and proud of themselves was a special moment. They had balanced a demanding academic program with constant travel and full days of cultural experiences, and they met that challenge with determination and resilience.
Perhaps the most rewarding part of the program was watching the students grow as people. We saw confidence develop, independence strengthen, and friendships deepen with each passing day. Students stepped outside their comfort zones, adapted to new environments, supported one another, and learned how to balance responsibility with fun.
Some of the most meaningful moments were not the ones listed on the itinerary. They happened during shared meals, study breaks, laundry days, long bus rides, card games, beach evenings, and conversations at the end of a busy day. These ordinary moments became special because the students were experiencing them together.
Along the way, we also celebrated several birthdays. These occasions brought even more joy to the program and gave the group another reason to come together.
The relationships formed between the students were one of the most special parts of the experience. Students arrived from different places, schools, and backgrounds, but they quickly became a close-knit group. They encouraged one another before presentations and exams, celebrated one another’s successes, and made sure that no one felt left out.
The relationships between the students and staff were just as meaningful. Over the course of the program, trust grew through shared experiences, honest conversations, plenty of laughter, and mutual respect. It was a privilege for the staff to watch the students grow, guide them through challenges, and celebrate their accomplishments.
Our final banquet was the perfect way to bring everything together. The room was filled with balloons, streamers, laughter, heartfelt speeches, personalized paper plate awards, and signed program T-shirts. Students wrote kind messages, favourite memories, and inside jokes on one another’s shirts, creating a keepsake that reflected the friendships they had built.
Looking back, this program was about much more than travel or academics. It was about growth, connection, independence, and community. The students learned how to navigate new places, manage their responsibilities, appreciate different cultures, and support one another. They returned home with new knowledge, new confidence, and friendships that we hope will continue long after the program has ended.
To all of our families, thank you for trusting us with your children and allowing them to be part of this incredible journey. It has been a privilege to watch them learn, grow, laugh, and make memories across Portugal and Spain.
To our students, thank you for your energy, curiosity, kindness, and willingness to embrace each new experience. You made this program unforgettable, and we are incredibly proud of all that you accomplished.
