  AUTHENTIC COOKING CLASS AND HALF DAY IN MAROULAS VILLAGE

  This excursion will have you experiencing an authentic day in Crete! Immerse yourself in local culture while discovering the traditions and flavors of the Mediterranean diet. Upon arrival, students gather around a large traditional wooden table overlooking the sea for a hands-on cooking experience guided by local hosts. During this interactive activity, students will learn about traditional Cretan cuisine, the importance of fresh local ingredients, and the role food plays in Greek family and social life. Working together with the hosts, they will discover how classic recipes and cooking techniques have been passed down through generations. Students will help prepare and enjoy a variety of traditional dishes including dakos salad with fresh tomatoes and Cretan cheese, tzatziki, stuffed vegetables and vine leaves (gemista and dolmades), greek salad and kolokithokeftedes. After the cooking experience and lunch, the group will enjoy a short walk through the picturesque village of Maroulas, exploring its narrow streets and historic churches while learning about the village’s history and Venetian influence.   VOLCANO AND HOT SPRINGS TOUR, SANTORINI

  When in Santorini, one must learn and experience how this island came to be. Santorini is a volcanic island group at the central south end of the Cyclades in the Aegean Sea. It is arguably the most famous of the Greek islands and it is renowned for its spectacular sea-filled volcanic caldera. Santorini’s half-moon shaped bay is surrounded by steep, colourful cliffs and spectacular sea views. Once we arrive at the volcanic bay by boat, we will follow the path to the top of the volcano to Palea Kameni where active craters still gently puff steam. Here we will experience the famous hot springs and mud baths, which were formed as result of volcanic eruptions. In the small bay of Agios Nikolaos the water temperature ranges from 30 to 35 degrees Celsius, as it mixes continuously with the normal sea currents. We will enjoy a therapeutic experience while gazing at the amazing view of the caldera that lies opposite.

  What to bring: Walking shoes, towel, bathing suit, water, change of clothes, hat, and sunscreen.

Pottery has been a tradition here for generations, and many locals still create beautiful pottery, blending tradition with modern art. You'll have the opportunity to meet a local artisan who will demonstrate how the pots are hand-thrown. The village features unique architecture and winding streets, perfect for exploring. As we stroll through Margarites, we’ll enjoy the vibrant colors of the village before moving on to the next part of our journey. Next, we’ll visit the famous Arkadi Monastery, one of the most significant historical sites on the island. Located in the Rethymno region, the monastery is famous for its role during the Cretan Revolt of 1866, when it became a symbol of resistance against the Ottoman Empire. Visitors can admire the beautiful architecture of the church, dedicated to Saint Constantine, as well as the stunning rose garden. The monastery’s surroundings are full of flowers and plants, making it a lovely spot for reflection. We then make our way to the mountains of Crete, where Melidoni Cave is a place where nature and history intertwine. Inside, visitors can admire breathtaking chambers filled with impressive stalactites and stalagmites. Soft lighting highlights the natural beauty of the formations, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. To wrap up the day, we’ll enjoy a traditional Cretan lunch before returning to our accommodation.
