COMMUNITY SERVICE, PLAYAS DEL COCO – FULL!

Community Service is an important aspect of giving back to the community. We try to instill a sense of global responsibility in all of our students as they explore the world. This optional excursion will allow students to engage in locally based community initiatives. Their time with local children, animals, or the natural environment of the area will earn them 4-5 community involvement hours which can go towards the student’s high school diploma.

What to bring: Water, comfortable walking shoes.

    AUTHENTIC COOKING CLASS AND HALF DAY IN NIPPOS VILLAGE

    This excursion will have you experiencing a very Greek day! You will start by taking a walking tour around Nippos, a small and picturesque village surrounded by white mountains. Nippos is known as an old style, peaceful and quiet village with many churches, with the most famous church in the village being St. George. Work up an appetite before heading over to the taverna where you will get an introduction to all the fresh herbs, vegetables, and olive oils you will be using to create your meals. You will learn about authentic recipes and enjoy a delicious meal that you have created yourself! You will be making crumbled tomatoes on traditional brusquettes (dako), the classic tzatziki, Greek cabbage rolls, stuffed vegetables with rice and herbs (gemista), and the famous Greek salad with feta cheese on top. You will also learn how to make the traditional phyllo dough and sweet Cretan cheese pies filled with myzithra cheese. Learn all the secrets of a Mediterranean healthy diet and Kali Orexi!
