Day 7: Surf, Sunshine, and a Birthday Surprise in Biarritz

Day 7 of our Grand Tour was nothing short of spectacular—a day filled with celebration, sunshine, and surfing on the Atlantic coast.

The morning began on a joyful note as we celebrated a student birthday: Griffin was greeted with balloons outside his door and serenaded with “Happy Birthday” by staff, followed by a charming rendition en français. His smile said it all—it was a special moment of community and kindness that set the tone for the day.

Shortly after breakfast, our surfing adventure began. Following a scenic walk through the beautiful streets of Biarritz, students arrived at a stunning beach where gentle waves and brilliant sunshine awaited. The group was split into two, ensuring a safe and focused experience for all.

The first group received on-land instruction, learning how to position themselves on the board and the basics of ocean safety. They then practiced catching waves without boards, gaining confidence before heading into the water. Once on their boards, the students were thrilled to discover the perfect surfing conditions—ideal waves, warm sun, and a supportive team of instructors. Every student had a moment of success, and a few even showed natural talent on the waves.

As the first group wrapped up, the second group hit the beach, greeted by equally perfect conditions. With plenty of encouragement and time in the water, they too experienced the pure joy of surfing—laughter, teamwork, and unforgettable memories made under the sun.

After this exhilarating morning, students returned to their hotels. One small group that had earlier enjoyed a home-cooked French breakfast needed to switch accommodations. Though it meant a short walk with luggage, the move was well worth it: the new hotel was even closer to the beach, with upgraded amenities and a charming coastal atmosphere that made everyone feel right at home.

Later in the afternoon, students gathered for a few brief announcements before enjoying some well-deserved free time to explore Biarritz, grab dinner, and soak in their final evening in this beautiful French town.

As bags were packed for tomorrow’s train journey to Paris, students reflected on a day full of energy, connection, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Truly, this was one of the most joyful and rewarding days of the Grand Tour—a celebration of friendship, adventure, and discovery.
