Day 7: Day Trip to Mykonos!
Thursday, July 31st
Today we were very excited for our optional excursion to Mykonos! Half the students joined us for this exciting journey to one of the most popular islands in Greece! Today’s blog is brought to you by William in Ms. Amelio’s English class.

Our day started bright and early at the Dolphin Bay Hotel in Syros. We all rolled out of bed and headed down for breakfast around 9 AM. After breakfast, we had some time to shower and make sure we had everything for the day. We started boarding the bus at 10:15, which then took us to the port of Syros.
From there, we hopped on the ferry to Mykonos. The ride wasn’t too long, and many of us spent it talking about our plans for the day, taking in the view, and trying to get some schoolwork done. When we finally pulled into Mykonos, we were all super excited and proceeded to board a bus that was waiting there for us. This bus took us from the new port to the old port, where we met our lovely tour guide for the day, Amy!
Amy was super friendly and knew everything about Mykonos. She led us on a walking tour through the winding white streets, sharing interesting educational facts about the island’s history and architecture. We stopped for lunch at a little place near the port called Artisti Prozimi. My meal was amazing and got me ready for the rest of the day.
After lunch, we continued our tour, walking through Mykonos town and learning more about the culture. Our final stop on the guided tour was the iconic windmills. We took some great photos for our Instagrams.
Then it was time for free time. We split into groups of four, and my friends and I set off to explore the town. We went through the maze-like alleys. Most shops were what you would expect—touristy shops with evil eyes and fridge magnets. But we also found a small local store that offered handmade jewelry and clothing. The restaurants were amazing, and they offered authentic Greek food that you couldn’t find anywhere else. I ended up buying a handmade necklace for my mom, as well as some other small gifts for the rest of my family. Some of my friends ended up buying matching watches, while others only went for the food!
Eventually, we got hungry again, so we grabbed some gyros from a local food stand that was recommended on social media. It was probably one of the best gyros I’ve ever had. We enjoyed them and talked about our purchases, then walked to the meeting point, where we met up with the rest of the group. We sat around waiting for the bus, talking about funny stories, our purchases, and the food we ate.
We boarded the bus back to the ferry and chatted as a class about the day, playing some fun “get to know everyone” games. Everyone was exhausted at the end of the day but happy about the day. Once we got back to Syros, it was one last bus ride to Dolphin Bay and then dinner at the buffet where we had our final meal of the day. After such a packed day, we signed back in with our teachers and headed up to our rooms for the night.
All in all, Mykonos was my favourite part of the trip so far because it was filled with so much adventure, long-lasting memories, and great souvenirs.
After two busy days of optional excursions we are looking forward to a day of class to wrap up the week!
