Student Code of Conduct

GLOBAL SUMMERS ACADEMY CODE OF CONDUCT

Our summer programs are a special time for students to have an exciting education and travel opportunity. Health and safety, along with respect of the culture and environment we are travelling to and the people we are travelling with, are important for the program. To ensure success, students must be mindful of the expected behaviour on our programs and adhere to the following expectations:

DRUG FREE

There is zero tolerance for drug-related situations. Any student found possessing or using illegal drugs, or in the company of anyone possessing or using illegal drugs, will be dismissed from the program and sent home at the student’s/parent’s/guardian’s expense. Cannabis is strictly prohibited on all Global Summers Academy programs. Students who abuse or share their prescription medication may be dismissed from the program and sent home at the student’s/parent’s/guardian’s expense.

ALCOHOL

Alcohol is not permitted on any of the grade 9-12 programs. Any student who has been found to have consumed alcohol will be disciplined, and parental contact will be made. Further occurrences will result in the student being dismissed from the program and sent home at the student’s/parent’s/guardian’s expense. Room checks for alcohol will be conducted regularly.

APPROPRIATE CONDUCT

All students must show respect to each other and the Global Summers Academy program staff, as well as the staff of the hotels/residences where we will be staying. Discrimination of any kind and bullying, including cyber bullying, are not permitted on any of our programs. Any student responsible for the discrimination or bullying of another student will be disciplined, and parental contact will be made. Further occurrences will result in the student being dismissed from the program and sent home at the student’s/parent’s/guardian’s expense.

APPROPRIATE CARE OF ACCOMMODATIONS

All students must be respectful of the hotel/residence rooms they will be staying in as well as the classrooms and facilities they will be using. Hotel/residence room checks will be made regularly by Global Summers Academy staff. Students will be responsible to cover the costs of any damages to their hotel/residence room or other damages they cause to the classrooms or facilities they use.

APPROPRIATE DRESS CODE

Students are expected to dress appropriately at all times. As we are guests in our destinations, please respect the cultural differences of your location with appropriate dress and behaviour at all times. By being mindful of both conduct and clothing, you honour local culture and present yourself in a positive manner. Therefore, Global Summers Academy staff may ask students to make adjustments in their clothing or their behaviour if deemed necessary.

CRIMINAL ACTIVITY

Students must not become involved in criminal activity of any kind, including theft. Students that become involved in criminal activity will be dismissed from the program and sent home at the student’s/parent’s/guardian’s expense and may be subject to the laws of the country they are visiting.
