Although our focus for the summer was learning, we also had a ton of free time to explore throughout the three parts of Costa Rica we stayed in. My favourite thing to do in Monteverde was to lounge in the hot tubs, play pool, when we explored the cloud forest and when we visited and learned about the coffee plantation at Cafe Monteverde.

In Arenal, we had multiple options for activities to do in our free time, such as visiting the hot springs and water slides; I also personally loved the change of scenery seeing the volcanoes.

Finally, my personal favourite, Playas del Coco. In Playas del Coco we were a two-minute walk from the beach, so we were able to go for a quick swim or tan. My all-time favourite thing to do was to go to the beach with everyone after classes were finished and see the sunset.

There are also so many fun and cute food places close to where we were staying. There were lots of ice cream shops, Johann bistro, 50’s diner, and our everyday spot, Pura Vida Juice Bar! We also had multiple options to take optional excursions such as snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, cooking or even volunteering! When visiting Costa Rica through Global Summers Academy, there is never a moment of boredom, there is always something to do whether it’s a planned activity with the whole group, an optional excursion or doing your own thing with your group of friends!
